"V for Vendetta"
by Sonya Artero

V for Vendetta is based on a comic series written in 1982 by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. The movie tells the story of future England and how it's being run by an oppressive man who controls the British government. "V" is the name of the lead character acted by Hugo Weaving who plays a terrorist whose mission on the surface consists of blowing-up buildings and committing murder.

But the reality is, his acts are for the good of Britain's populace. "V" dons an unforgettable mask, dark clothes and cape, which becomes his signature. In the movie, V rescues Evey, who's played by the beautiful Natalie Portman, who can't understand V's vendetta against Britain's government despite its corrupt and hate-driven ways.

In addition to featuring some great visual effects and believable slayings, the movie packs a powerful message that people should not be afraid of their governments, but rather governments should be afraid of their people."

I will leave you to see how the movie turns out, but I will reveal that V finally convinces Evey to take action by stating, "It's the people that put their government in power, and when that government turns corrupt, it's the people who must stop it."

Given our current state of the war in Iraq, I thought the movie contained a lot of political overtones. With the world–changing affects brought on by 9/11, V makes for a thought-provoking, yet unsettling movie, but it's what also makes the film truly unforgettable.
