"The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe"
by Sonya Artero

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is definitely a movie you have to see on the big-screen. The story is about the four Pevensie Children.

With their father away at battle and their mother fearful of the threat of WWII posed at home, the children- Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy - are shipped-off to escape the dangers. To their surprise, their destination is a large mansion in the English countryside, inhabited by Professor Kirke, who acts as a guardian who keeps to himself. One day while the children are playing a game of hide-and-seek, little Lucy stumbles upon a handsomely carved antique wardrobe.

Once hidden inside, she discovers that it not only contains winter coats, but a magical, snow-covered land called Narnia. There she meets a kind half-man/half-fawn named Mr. Tumnus who after being coaxed decides to spend the entire day with him. But once Lucy returns to the real world, she realizes that her entire stay in Narnia was in fact time-suspended.

And because nothing this good can ever be kept secret, Lucy eventually leads her siblings through the wardrobe and into the winter wonder-dream of Narnia. The plot centers around the sibling's efforts to release Narnia from the clutches of the white witch, which symbolizes her frozen heart. The witch's spell on Narnia keeps the land in constant winter where no Christmases are ever celebrated. So as not to give away the best part of the movie, what i will tell you...is that a showdown between good and evil takes place.

And with the help of a lion called Aslan, the children, along with their animal friends, gain the courage needed to fight for Narnia's freedom over the white witch. One of my favorite action scene's includes a chase between the kids and a pack of wolves over a melting ice pond. The first half of the movie is far better than the second where the mystical world of Narnia is featured.

The second half is where the plot becomes overly predictable which results in the story losing its originality. Although the movie features a bundle of intriguing characters and stunning animation, my favorite character is Tilda Swinton, who plays the perfect villainous White Witch. Just as brilliant is Georgie Henley, who plays Lucy, the youngest of the children. She's wide-eyed, adorable and 100% convincing.

Because the second half of the movie was over the top, I would rate the movie 4 out of 5 stars.
