"The Legend of Zorro"
by Sonya Artero

The original movie The Mask of Zorro launched Catherine Zeta Jones' career and without a doubt caught the attention of Michael Douglas, who after seeing the film, asked Catherine to be his bride and the rest is history.

As for the sequel, The Legend of Zorro, although action-packed, colorful and humorous, I'm afraid it does not quite measure-up to the original. The plot to this story is that after years of fighting crime as Zorro, Don Alejandro De La Vega played by Antonio Banderas vows to his wife Elena, played by Zeta Jones to give up his secret identity and live a normal life with his family of three. In this sequel, the couple's young son is featured as he struggles to understand why his father never seems to be there for him, not knowing that his father is the legendary Zorro.

The plot in this movie is all over the place and will have you confused. But the acting of Antonio and Catherine is flawless as usual. The duo light up the silver screen with romantic and humorous scenes coupled with a breath-taking backdrop of the old country. In addition, viewers will be treated to some great special effects.

Without giving away the movie, I will tell you that there are several death-defying fight scenes that mixed with special effects of huge explosions will have you pleased that you took the time to see it on the big-screen. I cannot stress enough how good Antonio is at the acrobatics involved in making the various swordfighting scenes believable. I firmly believe there is no other actor that can pull off the Zorro character better than Antonio.

He's such a natural that he'll have you laughing one minute and then frustrated the next. As for Catherine, her strength and beauty are pure poetry in motion. Even watching her fight in some of the scenes was a thrill as she fights to the death, all while being a lady first and foremost. The Legend of Zorro was a definite treat to watch but to be completely fair because the plot was scattered, it was a bit over the top.
