Sabrina Salas Matanane joined the KUAM News Team in January of 1997 as the new anchor for the 10pm Late Edition newscast. After a year on the job she was promoted to News Director and the new co-anchor of News8 Primetime.

Since her promotion Sabrina has been integral in the transformation of KUAM Island News to KUAM News8. She was active in bringing KUAM News to the masses, by helping in the development of KUAM.COM.

Sabrina is originally from the village of Agat, but spent most of her childhood in the mainland as a military dependent.  She is the proud daughter of Retired USAF Senior Master Sergeant Noberto and Lolita Salas of Oklahoma City.

She graduated from Del City High School in Oklahoma and would later attend the University of Oklahoma earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Electronic Journalism.

Her experience in news prior to joining our team here at KUAM includes: News intern at KNOR AM 1400 in Norman OK, News Intern at ABC affiliate KOC05 in Oklahoma Cit, KVSP AM 1140 Morning Radio News Anchor , KVSP AM1140 Radio Talk Show Co-Host, and Weekend On-Air Personality, KWTV9 CBS Affiliate in Oklahoma City as an Associate Producer and was present during the tragic Oklahoma City bombing. She was also a Reporter, Anchor, and Producer with Guam Cable News. During her time at Guam Cable News, Sabrina covered the tragic Korean Airlines Crash in August of 1997. She also covered the aftermath of Supertyphoon Paka in 1997. Her reports aired on CNN’s World Report.

In 2000 Sabrina won the Micronesia Society of Professional Journalists Professional Achievement and Performance Award for “Best Investigative Story”. The following year she earned the Micronesia Society of Professional Journalists Professional Achievement and Performance Award for “Best News Story”. In 2001, Sabrina was also named by the Society as “Journalist of the Year”.

Sabrina is a former board member for the Micronesia Society of Professional Journalists and is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
