Opening briefs today were filed with the Guam Supreme Court today as the Guam Election Commission hopes to get clarification on a Superior Court judge's decision in the Prop "A" case. Prior to the Decision 2006 General Election last November, Superior Court Judge Arthur Barcinas ruled that Prop "A" was to be taken off the ballot and the results not certified. (Read more...)

OPA analyzes GovGuam financials by agency
The Office of the Public Auditor has released the findings of its review on whether government agencies and departments are in compliance with submitting their quarterly financial reports. According to public law, agencies are required to submit reports manually, electronically, and post on the entity's web site. Should they fail to do so, each director, deputy and chief financial officer shall have her gross salary reduced by 20%. (Read more...)

District Court judge's report and recommendations on the closure of the Ordot Dump
A federal judge has come up with a list of items referred to as "interim milestones" that are meant to ensure the local government's compliance with the Ordot Dump consent decree. District Court Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan issued a report and recommendations denying the local government's request for extensions. (Read more...)

Core Tech issues apology for Gun Beach
Contractor Core Tech International Corporation has formally apologized to the people of Guam for damaging the ancient artifacts found at Gun Beach in Tumon. In an open letter addressed to the people of Guam, president Ho Eun says all clearing activities have been seized and planning is in the works ensuring proper treatment of the ancient items. Public Auditor analyzes Guam Preservation Trust's financials
Fiscal Year 2006 financial highlights of the Guam Preservation Trust were released today. The first audited financial statement the trust has issued in nine years. According to the Public Auditor the trust has contributed $6.8 million in rehabilitating and restoring more than a dozen historic structures on island. The GPT receives it income from building permit fees that have increased since previous years. (Read more...)

The Guam Community College has sent three students to represent the island at the annual SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, Missouri. Abby Farmer will compete in the medical assisting category, while both James Avery and John Sablan will compete against other high school and college students in automotive service technology competitions. The Guam Environmental Protection Agency's Air Pollution Amnesty Program comes to an end this Friday. If you own a generator, incinerator, boiler or other minor emissions source you may owe the agency money under the Air Pollution Control Act. (Read more...)
