After a deadly tuberculosis outbreak in Chuuk several weeks ago, the Department of Public Health and Social Services is still waiting on a list of people who might have traveled to Guam from Chuuk or during the TB outbreak.

Public Health acting Director Pete Roberto says, despite the lack of information being given by the Chuuk government, Public Health is still assisting Chuuk with controlling the deadly strain of TB through Direct Observation Therapy, ensuring those with TB take all their medication.

"We have a counterpart down there in Chuuk and already they're in constant dialogue with our own program manager, Cecilia Arciaga about how to ensure they get additional staff to do the necessary observations," Roberto said.

While the Chuuk government is discouraging those with TB not to travel to Guam, Roberto says he's pleased to report there have been no reports of the deadly TB reaching our island.
