In regional news out of Saipan, helicopters, illegal drugs, a government worker and a taxpayer funded getaway van all made for an interesting drug bust. A man who works for the Superior Court has found himself mixed up in a marijuana mess. A CNMI judiciary van looked a bit out of place parked behind the federal court building in Saipan and was apparently in the wrong place when the federal government conducted aerial searches for marijuana plants. The government car was actually used as an escape vehicle for a man who tried to flee from officials after being spotted hiding marijuana plants.

Joseph Reyes Guzman tried to get away but was chased down and detained and then released by officials. While it's unclear if he was arrested, Guzman has not yet been charged. Guzman works as the building supervisor at the local court, but he is no longer there as he resigned for personal reasons.

Helicopters began circling the island last week and were seen flying around Guzman's home and the surrounding fields, but DEA Resident Agent in Charge Tony Marquez would only tell KSPN News in Saipan that choppers are part of an ongoing operation but he would not confirm the choppers were part of a drug bust.
