The Attorney General's Office is not going to be filing any criminal charges against police officers who were involved in the shooting death of Rey Garcia. During a press conference this morning, members of the AG's Office said that based on the circumstances that they investigated, officials concluded that the police use of force was justified in the use of deadly force as the officers believed that Garcia would cause death or seriously bodily harm to another.

The AG's Office also concluded that it appeared Garcia was trying to get police to have him commit suicide while at the Veteran's Cemetery in Piti last year. After nine months of investigation, just last month, Chief of Police Paul Suba released the findings saying his officers were justified in shooting him.

The family of Rey Garcia, however, are looking to retain legal counsel as they believe the police department did not follow its continuum of force policy and that officers were not trained properly to deal with such an incident. Family members have said in previous interviews that they may file a wrongful death claim against the government for the shooting death they feel was unncessary.
