The Guam Federation of Teachers has decided not to file a lawsuit against the Guam Public School System. Much controversy surfaced after GPSS and the GFT had different opinions on whether teachers should work and get paid for the extended days. GFT union president Matt Rector says in speaking with new GPSS superintendent Bunny Sgambelluri, things look promising.

Said Rector, "Going to court is a waste of time and resources for everybody, so it's better when we can work things out for everybody. Fortunately with Bunny being on board these folks [on the GEPB] want to work together to make the system right, and the last thing they want to do is exploit teachers." Rector says one of the solutions includes allowing certified teachers or administrators still on the books during summertime to fill those positions for now, in order to avoid a lawsuit.
