Faced with funding issues and lingering concerns about the health and safety of island schoolchildren, the Guam Public School System will have to cut back on summer school programs. Interim superintendent of public education Corina Paulino told KUAM News, "Last year most of the schools actually offered summer school, but as a result of the need to actually start assessing and addressing and maximizing opportunities for facility issues the decision was made to downsize the operations of summer school."As for those schools that will be offering summer school, they are Talofofo Elementary School, Ordot-Chalan Pago Elementary School, Chief Brodie Memorial School, and Astumbo Elementary School. Only one middle school will be offered up for summer school - Jose Rios Middle School. Meanwhile, all high schools will be availing themselves to seniors who need to graduate. Bussing will be provided for middle and elementary school students only.
