The newly-selected executive director of the Guam Election Commission is ready for the challenges ahead. Current Mayor's Council of Guam executive director John Blas was appointed to fill the vacancy left by former director Gerry Taitano. Blas says he's looking forward to his new role and will ensure the commission is ready for this year's election.

"In my own humble opinion, I believe the integrity and the credentials of the Guam Election Commission have [sic] pretty much dwindled in the eyes of our voting population, so my mission, my goal, is to bring up that confidence and trust for our voting population with the commission," he told KUAM News.

While Blas' first day on the job is June 2, the Mayor's Council is still looking to find a replacement for him.
