After a lengthy executive session in which members deliberated feverishly about the future sustainability of local public education, the Guam Education Policy Board gathered and made a motion to select Bunny Sgambelluri as the newest superintendent of the Guam Public School System. The meeting, held tonight at the Chief Brodie Elementary School in Upper Tumon, sought to fill the position vacated with the termination of Luis Reyes on March 26.The end of Reyes' tenure at the helm of GPSS was reportedly brought about by a the closure of Southern High School due to safety and health concerns noted by a GPSS task force, led by Attorney General Alicia Limtiaco. Reyes had been on the job for less than two years, succeeding Juan Flores, whose ousting in 2006 was likewise controversial for perceived failure to improve the ailing state of public education locally.Sgambelluri is a professor at the Guam Community College.
