With the rising cost of everything from gas to utilities and groceries, chairman of the Legislative Committee on Finance & Taxation Senator Eddie Calvo (R) is calling on the governor to comply with public law and pay retirees their cost of living allowance. Guam Public Law 28-151 allows the governor to use money from the Territorial Highway Construction Fund and Tourist Attraction Fund to pay COLA to public sector retirees.

The Camacho Administration had previously taken money from the two funds, but the cash had to be reimbursed as Attorney General Alicia Limtiaco determined the money was spent on other things aside from COLA. In the meantime, COLA recipients are waiting on Governor Felix Camacho to sign a guarantee that would make $9,000,000 immediately available to pay down a portion of the COLA judgment.
