The Guam Memorial Hospital's administrator has been allowed to intervene in Dr. George Macris' lawsuit against the Guam Board of Medical Examiners. Macris is the center of a complaint filed against him by GMH administrator Peter John Camacho, who alleges the physician disclosed confidential medical records without the consent of a patient. The complaint also alleges that Macris' care of certain patients was below the standard expected of physicians.

The GBME in turn reviewed the allegations and intended to proceed with a hearing scheduled for May 14, to impose sanctions against Macris, but the physician took the matter to court to stop that from happening. This morning despite opposition from Dr. Macris, Superior Court Judge Michael Bordallo granted Camacho's motion to intervene in the case.

The administrator is moving to have the civil suit thrown out contending Macris has failed to exhaust his administrative remedies and attend the Guam Board of Medical Examiner's hearing first.

The judge will hear the motion to dismiss on May 22.

Meanwhile, the GBME's May 14 hearing has been continued until another date can be scheduled in compliance with the Open Government Law.
