The wait for the federal tax rebate by almost 2,000 island residents will finally be over, hopefully before the weekend starts. The Governor's Office has announced that the Guam Department of Revenue & Taxation has prepared 1,949 tax rebate checks for distribution through the mail on Friday. This is the first such batch distribution to be made of President George W. Bush's 2008 Economic Stimulus Act.Additionally, Adelup confirmed that among the checks, 247 were marked for garnishment due to liabilities:- 132 checks were garnished for $52,345 owed to Rev & Tax- 24 checks were garnished for $12,684 owed to the Child Support Division of the Attorney General's Office- 88 checks were garnished for $34,717 owed to the Guam Memorial Hospital- 3 checks were garnished for $1,042 owed to the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal AuthorityAs KUAM News previously reported, the timetable to properly distribute all checks - in the sum of $52,000,000 to Guam recipients - could be more than a year. Single tax filers are eligible for up to $600, with joint filers eligible for up to $1,200.
