It's likely that the debate over whether to shutoff village streetlights will move to the Guam Legislature today. The Committee on Finance & Taxation has scheduled a public hearing on various bills including Bill 274, which transfers $7.9 million from the Guam Public School System to the Department of Public Works to pay for the arrearage.

The Consolidated Commission on Utilities decided to disconnect village streetlights after the Government of Guam failed to make any real effort to pay off their arrearages. While the governor believes lawmakers are to blame, some senators have criticized Felix Camacho for opposing legislation that would have identified a funding source to pay off the debt.
