Perhaps as a tourniquet solution to the seemingly endless problems experienced by the local government's education agency, the man tasked to lead its efforts has been fired. Following the disaster that has been the closing, re-inspection, and eventual re-opening of Southern High School, an ordeal that was stretched out over nearly two weeks, the members of the Guam Education Policy Board during their regularly scheduled meeting this evening called for an executive session, closing their discussion off to the public. And upon completion of that mini-meeting, members voted to terminate Guam Public School System superintendent Luis Reyes.Chairman Joe San Agustin told KUAM News that the debacle at Southern High only aggravated the litany of concerns with GPSS, the largest agency in the cash-strapped Government of Guam. Members voted unanimously to terminate Reyes, effective immediately. San Agustin says Corina Paulino, who most recently has served as associate superintendent for elementary schools, has been named interim superintendent until a permanent replacement is named.
