Senator Judi Guthertz has introduced legislation prohibiting the importation of rodenticides to Cocos Island. The Department of Agriculture plans to use poisons to kill off rats and monitor lizards that they say may jeopardize the introduction of the endangered Koko Bird to the island. Said the senator, "The people in the south are very upset about it, you know our southern islanders have fished swam recreated in the waters around Cocos and also been on the island for hundreds of years and their concerned about the potential dangers that will ensue in terms of the waters and in terms of the island itself."

This bill would require that any plan to bring poisonous materials or chemicals onto Cocos be brought to the Guam Legislature for approval.
