The first baby born on American soil in 2008 was welcomed into the world at 12:01am January 1. The New Year's baby boy, Gabrio Allan Perez, was delivered by Dr. Thomas Shieh. Guam Memorial Hospital nursing supervisor Sally Quichocho tells KUAM Gabrio, born to proud parents Cynthia Quinata and Allan Perez, weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.

Shieh noted that this was Quinata's 7th child, adding the procedure went smoothly and quickly.

As is customary for every New Year's baby, the family will receive a gift package put together by local companies celebrating the birth of the first baby born in 2008.
