Police investigate suspected meth lab
Officers with the Guam Police Department are investigating yet another suspected clandestine methamphetamine lab at a motel in Maite. Around 5 o'clock Wednesday morning, police located at least one male individual inside an apartment at the Plumeria Hotel. Authorities have released very little information about the case, only saying one man is in federal custody for questioning while another is being questioned by local authorities.
Police have not released the names of any of the individuals involved or the details of what items were found inside the apartment.
The discovery of this new clan lab is the second found in as many weeks. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the Guam Police Department's Violent Street Crimes Task Force, conducted extensive searches of a Mazda Miata and a Barrigada home earlier this month. Two people were arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the meth lab found inside a duplex in Barrigada along Blas Street. Johnnie Fortner and Kelly Francisco have pleaded not guilty to federal charges of attempting to manufacture methamphetamine and conspiracy. Two other individuals who were riding with Fortner as she attempted to remove items used to make the drug Ice from her home before police found it. The names of those two people were never released.
Fortner, meanwhile, was remanded to federal custody behind bars while Francisco was released but ordered to home confinement. The couple is slated to go to trial on December 12.
