On Capitol Hill, House Resolution 186 passed unanimously on the House Floor. The measure, which was co-sponsored by Guam congressional delegate Madeleine Bordallo, supports the goals and ideals of National Clean Beaches Week that begins today and lasts through July 5. HR-186 recognizes the considerable value of American beaches and their role in American culture.

According to Congresswoman Bordallo, the problem of littered beaches and shore lines afflicts all the coastal states and all the insular territories. She also stated that litter is not only unsightly, but also that it threatens the marine environment and is a health hazard for all beachgoers.
