A multimillion dollar project to develop high rises at the recently acquired Gun Beach property in Tumon has been grounded. According to territorial archeologist Vic April, the project's developer, CoreTech International, was ordered to cease clearing the area Wednesday afternoon after it was found that the company did not have the proper permit to begin the clearing. It was also revealed that the company lacked the presence of an archeologist, as is mandated when the actual clearing is to occur.

April also stated that CoreTech instead had a boring permit from the Guam Environmental Protection Agency.

This afternoon meetings were being held between CoreTech and the Department of Parks & recreation to determine the next course of action. Those meetings ended at 5 this afternoon, and April summarizes that a notice of violation will be issued that could contain monetary penalties. As well, CoreTech has been ordered to conduct a damage assessment that will be submitted to Parks & Rec either tomorrow or next Monday.

Just last week the announcement was made that the property had been sold, with the new owners planning to construct the Two Lovers Towers, complete with hundreds of executive condominiums, a village arcade containing a mini-shopping mall and restaurants, and the island's largest water park. The Towers, along with the Cliffside Towers, are slated to be 35 stories high and containing approximately 1,500 rooms.

For now however, the project remains at a standstill.
