There's truly no such thing as bad press. Perhaps not surprisingly, the reactions we've been getting from the community about Madeleine Bordallo's appearance on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" have been mixed. Many people evidently didn't get the joke that indirectly plugged Guam to the world. The sardonic, arrogant styling of political satirist and multiple Emmy-award winning Stephen Colbert were matched against Bordallo's open and honest love for the island, with the host consistently interjecting comments with his usual sensibility (or lack thereof) for his guest. The disarray of the conversation, playful teasing and Bordallo's reactions to the absurdity of it all was what made the bit great. It's comedy, people. Bordallo would reportedly later say of Colbert, "[He] was the worst interviewer I have ever encountered...he was misinformed, unprepared, and quite frankly, there was no logic to his line of questioning." Which is precisely the point. At any rate, Bordallo was a good sport and represented the island well, defending it as best she could while pitted against Colbert's rapid fire topic shifts and signature deadpan. She admitted she had fun, taking it all in stride and smiling throughout - even during the clip's surprise ending. Bordallo even fired a potshot at Colbert post-mortem, playfully questioning the personality's survivability. And regardless of whether you got the humor or not, it made for good TV. Some online sources have credited the "Better Know A Protectorate" piece featuring Guam as being one of the best pieces he's ever done.
