Yesterday the Bush Administration announced nearly $6.7 million in funding to support local homeless programs in Hawaii and Guam. Of that amount, Guam expects $500,000, and $127,000 specifically for emergency shelters. This announcement comes from U.S. Housing and Urban Development secretary Alphonso Jackson.

According to Jackson, "These grants will support thousands of local programs that are on the front lines of helping those who might otherwise be living on our streets." These much needed funds will provide permanent and transitional housing for homeless persons, as well as job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and child care.
