John Hattig has made history for Guam, becoming the first local player to record an RBI in Major League Baseball. But apparently wanting to make history in a big way, the Piti native went a tad farther than just bringing a run home. Way farther, in fact. "J.R.", who has been playing third base for Toronto since being called up from the minor leagues on August 16, had a three-run double off Cha Seung Baek in the top of the 4th inning, helping his team rout the Seattle Mariners 10-0 at Safeco Field. His #23 jersey is - not surprisingly - getting some major requests from a huge groundswell of local hardball fans adopting the Blue Jays as their de facto home team.Toronto manager John Gibbons is reportedly very pleased with J.R.'s work ethic, attitude and performance when he's been called upon. This feat is especially meaningful for Hattig, since he had a huge crowd of Chamorro supporters cheering for him, including about fifteen family members.KUAM Sports very soon will air a thirty-minute special documentary featuring Brant McCreadie, who spent some time with J.R. when the Blue Jays were on a road trip in Anaheim to face the Angels.
