The Guam Fire Department is launching an investigation into a fire that ignited at the GCIC Arcade in Hagatna early this morning, specifically at the Mermaid Tavern Great Deep Brewing Company. According to GFD spokesperson Phyllis Blas, the fire broke out around 1am and was under control by 2.

Although devastated that her two-year-old restaurant and brewery had burned down, co-owner Nadia Wood says she's just happy no one was hurt. "They did an assessment at that time and determined it was an electrical fire and think it probably started in the ceiling panels and collapsed the ceiling into the restaurant," she told KUAM News.

Because there was smoke damage throughout the building, about a dozen other businesses were prevented from opening including the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Army recruitment offices.
