If local attorney Mike Phillips gets his way, a smoking ban in restaurants will go into effect immediately. Today Phillips filed an opposition to a motion filed last week by Attorney General Douglas Moylan. The AG had previously requested the court issue a preliminary injunction that would prevent the implementation of the Natasha Protection Act.

Phillips today, in his filing with the court, asked the judge to dismiss the AG's motion (should it be entertained), and suggested the court only rule on the Act's prohibition of smoking in bars and hotel rooms. The attorney also requested the ban in restaurants be ordered immediately.

The parties will argue the motion this Friday before Superior Court Judge Steven Unpingco.
