The new GTA launched an impressive suite of re-branded wireless communications services centered around Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) on Saturday to a large crowd of several hundred anxious users who literally couldn't wait to get their hands on the latest technology available locally. "GSM is a leading standard for mobile phone communication services in the world. Over 1.5 billion users of GSM platforms exist today," said MPULSE vice-president and general management Andrew Gayle.
The former Guam Telephone Authority, privatized in 2005 by Shamrock Holdings, debuted in grand fashion their new MPULSE store in the Agana Shopping Center, as well as their new GSM-powered mobile calling plans. Under the catchy umbrella slogan, "Move With It", the first phase of MPULSE includes standard wireless features with more advanced methods of accessing and sharing information on the way in the very near future.
Explained Gayle, "We're on Phase I of our launch - we're offering voice services, SMS texting within the GTA network, voicemail, caller ID, call forwarding, etc. Over the next phases we'll be rolling out GPRS [General Packet Radio Services], EDGE [Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution], data services to your phone, picture messaging, video messaging; we're going to offer enhanced coverage. We're building more sites and we're spending more money as we speak this year on enhanced coverage.
"We're also going to be doing international roaming to the most popular destinations in the short-term and eventually to the entire world."
