In an exclusive interview with KUAM News during "News8 Extra with Sonya Artero" Senator Eddie Baza Calvo (R) strongly implied that he will be running for governor in the Decision 2006 election. During the interview, he dispelled rumors that he would be running with incumbent governor Felix Camacho. Senator Calvo did say that he had been approached separately by both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor Kaleo Moylan to run with them in next year's race. He said he viewed the opportunity as an honor, but then respectfully declined and instead announced his own candidacy. When asked about his running mate and about the curiousness of the "Calvo/Forbes" bumper stickers that have been spotted on selective cars throughout the island, Senator Calvo said he has a lot of respect for Speaker Mark Forbes (R). He added that the Speaker has vast experience working in both the administration and in the legislature (Forbes previously held high-ranking positions during Joe Ada's term as Guam's chief executive). He told KUAM News, "Speaker Forbes has agreed to be my running mate."Calvo, the current chairman of the Legislative Committee on Finance & Taxation and Legislative Secretary for the 28th Guam Legislature, previously ran unsuccessfully in 2002 for a seat in the Executive Branch as running mate of former legislative speaker Antonio Unpingco.Coincidentally, Senator Calvo's announcement was made the night of Governor Camacho's birthday; immediately after leaving KUAM's Harmon Studios, Calvo attended a party in the Governor's honor at a Tumon Bay hotel.
