While most of the Government of Guam was taking the day off, the Guam Election Commission was at work today on what's not-so-affectionately become known as Recount 2004. While KUAM News initially reported that the race between incumbent Republican senator Joanne Brown and incumbent Democrat Speaker Ben Pangelinan for the 15th spot in the Guam Legislature had tightened to one vote, based on information from Guam Election Commission executive director Gerry Taitano, that was not the case.

Representatives from the Democrat and Republican parties of Guam confirmed with KUAM, News that in fact Senator Brown was ten votes ahead of Speaker Pangelinan last night. As of five this afternoon republican recount observer Joe Mesa and democrat recount observer Dan Ybarra said Senator Brown now leads the Speaker by 10 votes.
