Guam - Department of Education superintendent Dr. Jon Fernandez
has chosen the individuals he believes are best suited to lead the Government's
of Guam largest agency. Erica Cruz has been tapped as deputy
superintendent of educational support and community learning. She is currently
the principal at Jose
Rios Middle
School.
Robert Malay will be the deputy superintendent for assessment and
accountability while Joe Sanchez will be the deputy superintendent for
curriculum and instructional improvement.
Taling Taitano will remain the deputy superintendent for finance and
administrative services. Fernandez said,
"This is a team that will be focused on achieving higher standards and
outcomes for our students; strengthening school leadership across our district;
supporting effective teaching and instruction; improving organizational
efficiency; and building a system of accountability that goes from the top to
the bottom."
The appointments take effect on Monday, October 8. While the salary range for the deputy positions
are between $80,000-$110,000, the superintendent is hoping to implement a
performance-based compensation structure in the coming year"
