Guam - The Guam Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division picked up Guam Federation of Teachers president Matt Rector on Tuesday. He is now in police custody after failing to disclose details about his previous misdemeanor burglary conviction from the early 1980's in California.
Rector did not disclose that conviction when he applied for a concealed weapons permit with GPD and when he filed for candidacy in 2008.
According to police, Rector was arrested this afternoon and charged with two counts of unsworn falsification for failing to disclose the conviction on both a gun permit and concealed firearms permit applications. Rector recently resigned from his post after a police investigation, led by Officer Boom Mantanona, revealed details about his prior criminal background.
The vacancy in the 30th Guam Legislature prompted the need for the special election on March 20.
