Guam - Senator Jim Webb, chair of the Senate Committee on Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee and the Committee on Foreign Relations East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee, is scheduled to visit Japan and Guam on February 13-20. Webb's visit to Tokyo, Okinawa and Guam are planned so he can discuss the relocation of U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Guam and exchange views with the current Japanese government and the leaders and citizens of Okinawa and Guam.

This will be Webb's first visit to Japan since the change of government last year. Webb is a former Marine during the Vietnam War and a former defense planner as well as a journalist who wrote a notorious study of the Japanese prison system. Webb has written extensively about U.S.-Japan relations. His book, "The Emperor's General", delves into the experience of General Douglas McArthur in post-war Japan.

Senator Webb visited Guam twice in the 1970s.
