What do the icons below the Users & Room menu mean?
These icons allow you to perform functions on other users in the chat room.  You must highlight a user in the list before these options will work.

The first icon (from the left) displays another users profile or  information.   The second icon initiates a private chat with another user.  The third icon flags a user so when they say something, their text appears in a different color (press button again to toggle highlighting off for a particular user).  The fourth icon allows you to ignore a user, not allowing you to see things they type in the room or initiate a private chat with you (press button again to toggle user ignore).

What's all that stuff I see when I click "Settings"?
The settings button allows you to set specific preferences for your chat session.  Options are not saved for your profile after you leave that chat program (this is due to the fact that KUAM Chat uses an "open chat system", not requiring registration).  Each screen is outlined below.

  The Profile tab (shown to any user who presses the profile/information button)
     · Nickname - This is the name that is displayed in the chat, and when you chat with others.  This is the name you used when you logged in to the chat system.
     · Real Name - Your real name.
     · Age - How old you are.
     · Gender - Boy or girl!
     · E-mail Address - Your personal email address people can contact you at.
     · URL - Have a web page or a favorite spot on the web?  Enter it here.
     · Exit Message - If you leave a chat room, users are displayed this message.
     · Comments - Any other information you' d like someone to know.
     · Block profile from other users - Don't want anyone to see?  Check the box to block it!
     · Save - Click to save what you've entered.

  The Options tab
     · Message Scroll Speed - How fast messages scroll up on your window.
     · Enable Chatwatch - KUAM Chat has disabled this option.
     · Enable Auto-Popup of Private Messages - Pops up automatically private messages to you.
     · Save - Click to save what you've entered.

  The Fonts tab
     · Font - Choose the font used to display messages & chat dialogue.
     · Size - Make your font larger or smaller (smaller fits more dialogue on the screen).
     · Style - Plain, Bold, Italic, whatever you fancy!
     · Normal Messages - Text color of any normal conversation taking place.
     · Flagged User - Text color of users you've flagged to be highlighted.
     · Private Message - Text color of private messages to you.
     · Private Message Background - Background color of private messages to you.
     · Background - Background color of regular chat dialogue.
     · Save - Click to save what you've entered.

Why are the names of some people in BLUE or RED?
The color of the names defines their role in the chat system.  Names in black are regular users of the system.  Names in blue are system moderators and administrators.  Name in red are celebrities.  You cannot privately message a name that appears in red.

Can I browse to other sites with the browser window I used to log in to the chat?
Yes, but if you close the browser window, you will be logged out of the chat.

Can I send files to other users with the chat program?
No.  KUAM Chat does not support file transfer within the chat program.

Why do some rooms have a picture of a lock in front of them?
These rooms are private, and cannot be entered unless you have the correct password.

Can I create my own room?
KUAM Chat does not allow people to create their own rooms.  Please use the rooms that we have supplied.

How long should it take to load the chat program?
This varies depending on your internet connection.  If you have a modem, your wait will be between 1 and 2 minutes.  This long delay should only happen the first time you login.

I'm typing, but nothing is displaying on the screen when I press enter or click send!
You are in a moderated room.  Messages you type will only be displayed to the moderators in the room.  The Moderators can then select your message to be displayed to everyone in the room, forward it to a celebrity for them to answer and display to the room, or privately message you.
