While this time of year is often indulgent, DFS Guam has reinvented their annual holiday window in a more eco-friendly manner.  Though the inside of DFS Guam displays the latest and trendiest products on the market, it might surprise you to find out that this year's annual holiday window, themed as "Fairy Tales and Fantasies," is made up of about 95% reused and recycled props from previous displays.

Visual Merchandising Manager James Santos said, "It's part of our company wide initiative to be Keen on Green, so we try to find different ways on how we can lessen our carbon footprint on the planet."  From refinishing mirrors to repainting trees, Santos says re-purposing previously used props is not only good for the planet, but also worked as a cost saver for DFS.

"What we did this year is that the visual team and I raided our visual warehouse. We went through and saw what elements we have that we could actually pull a window together with. So a lot of these were actually housed in our store rooms, they've all been used in previous windows throughout the years," he explained.

Santos adds that along with the turtles on display, the fairies covered with hundreds of butterflies were amongst his favorite items to revamp. "The wings were actually really neat because they were a prop we used in our liquor department.  What we did is we actually stripped the entire wing apart, it's actually a leaf from a tree, so we took that apart, added the gold on it and turned it into wings. That's really great and really exciting," Santos stated.

The "Fairy Tales and Fantasies" window display remains up until early January, so be sure to check it out.
