The proponents of Prop "A" are continuing to pound the pavement in hopes of garnering more support for the Responsible Gaming Act. Campaign chairperson E.J. Calvo presented the model of the proposed convention center that will be built at the Guam Greyhound Park in Tamuning, should the initiative pass in November.
"Prop 'A' is a way to make it happen, a way to create jobs, a way to create tax revenue that our government needs." - E.J. Calvo
According to Calvo, the convention center is the "economic driver" the island's been waiting for. He told KUAM News, "It will bring in projections of over $20 million a year that into our economy that's not coming here right now. And that will grow to over $40 million by year 2010 by convention center studies that have been done for [the Guam Visitors Bureau] and the Tourism Foundation, so we're excited to be a part of making things happen on Guam, helping our economy get better. Prop 'A' is a way to make it happen, a way to create jobs, a way to create tax revenue that our government needs."
Prop "A", if passed, would allow for casino gaming for visitors only at Greyhound, with proceeds going to public safety, education, healthcare and the construction of said center. According to Calvo, he and other supporters have been ramping up efforts to ensure people are fully informed about the benefits of the initiative.
He explained, "The more people learn about Prop 'A', they see the facts for themselves and they read the initiative, the more they realize this is going to bring about a positive change on Guam and this is going to be stimulus for our island to create the jobs that we need."
