Human trafficking is defined as the recruitment, transportation, or transfer of an individual by use of force, threat, abduction or deception. The Human Trafficking Task Force hopes to educate the public about this growing problem and a proclamation was signed today making today National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
Local officials including Attorney General Alicia Limtiaco are hoping to develop legislation that would make human trafficking a crime. "We are going to be working with and looking at what other states have passed and enacted," Limtiaco announced at a press conference today. "We're also looking at a model code that's been promoted and advocated for states, as well."
Lieutenant Governor Mike Cruz also declared January as Stalking Awareness Month.
