Known for being an outspoken group of physician's attempting to improve healthcare on Guam, the Guam Medical Society has dropped the ball when it comes to keeping up with its financial reporting requirements. Two days after Dr. Sam Friedman took the helm as President of the GMS, their charter was revoked by the Department of Revenue & Taxation.
According to DRT, GMS has not turned in any financial reports for 2007 and 2008. These reports are required to be submitted to DRT yearly, for profit and non-profit businesses. The letter from DRT also states since the GMS was formed in 2004 as a non-profit group; not once did they ever apply for recognition of tax exempt status.
Dr. Sam Friedman says attorneys are currently looking in to the matter and he is confident the revocation of GMS's charter will be worked out shortly.
In the meantime, Guam Medical Association president Dr. Patrick Santos says his organization is still accepting memberships for those in the GMS that might be interested in joining the GMA.
