Inspections of homes in GHURA 35 have begun. An inspector the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is on Guam conducting the inspections. GHURA acting executive director Benny Pinaula told KUAM News, "He's not finding the kind of structural degradation that has happened in GHURA 48. We don't have an extensive Spalding problem, in fact, most of our units that are in public housing, according to our folks, are well kept and in good condition."
Up to 30 families in GHURA 48 had to be relocated after structural deficiencies were identified in the homes. GHURA 38 is located near the Northern Public Health Center. There's still now word of whether GHURA 48 will be demolished, as GHURA's contracted engineer, Duenas, Bordallo, Camacho & Associates, has sent samples of rebar and concrete to Hawaii for testing.
Pinaula says if the tests determine the walls are safe, then only the roofing at GHURA 48 will be replaced.
